Double Crochet Beanies (Worsted Weight)

img_9874-1

I will be adding additional sizes to this list as the videos get published, but I wanted to at least get the ones I have done published and easy for everyone to find.  This list is for basic beanies made with worsted weight yarn, using double crochet stitches.  These beanies are great on their own, and they can easily be made into character hats by adding ears or faces.  You can make them in any color and it is easy to add stripes or other designs.  I am also including a section on how to do ribbing on the bottom edge of each hat, and I will post links to the tutorials for the techniques needed to make these hats.  Each hat should take far less than one skein, no matter what size you make.

Materials Needed:

Worsted weight yarn in any color

Size I crochet hook

Double Crochet (U.S. terms.  For my British friends, this is a treble)

Adding Ribbing to the Bottom of Your Hat:

To give your beanie a more finished look, you can add ribbing to the edge.  To do this, do not do the last two rows of the regular beanie pattern listed above. (For example, if you are making a size 3-6 months, stop at row 9 instead of 11)  You will then do three rows as of alternating FPDC, BPDC.
